Irate Customer, Burglary, Stolen Vehicle: MGPD Incident Report

A synopsis of some of the incidents responded to by the Maple Grove Police Department during the week of July 22-28, 2018. 

July 22
Elm Creek Boulevard and Maple Knoll Way. Officer on routine patrol observed stolen vehicle. When attempting contact, occupants fled the scene.  A juvenile suspect remained in the vehicle, another was tracked by canine and were arrested for possessing stolen property, remaining suspect was not found.  The vehicle was returned to the owner, incident under investigation. 

12100 block of Elm Creek Boulevard. Report of financial transaction fraud at several stores in area. Incidents are under investigation.

11200 block of 93rd Avenue. Report of theft. Officer made contact and found victim’s cell phone had been stolen after placing it on his vehicle outside of business. The incident is under investigation.

July 23
9500 block of Upland Lane. Report of young children jumping on hood of vehicle parked outside of business and riding on the moving vehicle. Officer made contact with the driver, who stated while she was inside some of the kids were actively getting their energy out but at no time was the vehicle in motion. Safety concerns discussed.

July 24
12500 block of 95th Avenue. Report of burglary. Officer responded and found homeowners had left their garage door open and two vehicles were broken into. A purse was stolen along with its contents and fraudulent activity had occurred on credit cards. The incident is under investigation.

18900 block of Yarborough Trace. Report of possible heart attack. Officer responded and administered aid, paramedics arrived to take over care and transport the victim to the hospital.

Elm Creek Boulevard and Zachary Lane North. Officer responded to a safety concern in which a child was reportedly riding in a moving vehicle while being held on a lap in the front seat.  Contact was made, the individual was warned of safety concerns and cited for violation of child restraint laws.

12200 block of Elm Creek Boulevard. Report of juvenile in custody for shoplifting.  Officer responded and the individual was cited for theft and trespassed from the store.
13800 block of 78th Avenue. Report of neighbor throwing trash in homeowner’s yard. Officer made contact and found plant clippings had been thrown onto the property.  Warned suspect of ordinance violation and provided further recommendations to individual. 

July 25
11700 block of Central Park Way. Officers on bike patrol observed suspicious vehicle in parking lot from which the odor of marijuana emanated.  Contact made with the two passengers, one arrested for a warrant.

13300 block of 86th Avenue. Report of theft from vehicle. Officer responded, wallet and phone charger had been stolen overnight. No suspect information.

9100 block of Yucca Lane. Report of property damage. Officer responded and found homeowner’s mailbox had been driven over during the night. No suspect information.

9500 block of Winslow Chase. Report of checks stolen from mailbox and fraudulently used. no suspect information.

13500 block of 80th Circle. Report of irate customer causing a disturbance. Officer made contact with the individual who had left the business and stated the manager had been rude. Staff only wanted the individual to leave the store and no further assistance needed.

July 26
12800 block of 82nd Place. Report of theft from vehicle. Officer responded and found two unlocked vehicles had been tampered with overnight. Stolen was $300 in cash and a bag of security electronics, no suspect information.

17300 block of 69th Avenue. Report of vehicle parked on street for several nights with person possibly living in it. Officer made contact with the individual who stated he had been sleeping in his vehicle as he was going through a tough time. Advised to find a different place to park overnight. 

I-94 and Maple Grove Parkway. Report of accident involving two vehicles.  Officer responded, one of the driver’s license was cancelled and they were arrested. 

July 27
9400 block of Wellington Lane. Report of male sleeping in hammock in a tree.  Officer made contact and found individual was homeless and just resting. A resource card was provided to him.

12300 block of Main Street. Report of bicycle stolen from bike rack at Transit Center. No suspect information.
12900 block of Weaver Lake Road. Report of cash and cards stolen from purse in locker room, cards had fraudulent activity. Incident under investigation.

July 28
I-94 and Weaver Lake Road. Officer on routine patrol made contact with driver for speeding. The suspect showed multiple signs of impairment and was arrested for DWI.

15900 block of 73rd Place. Officer responded to a welfare check and circumstances around a tent in the park. Contact made with female who stated she and a friend slept in a tent for something different to do. Advised of park hours and ordinance against camping overnight.

8000 block of Wedgewood Lane. Officer responded to report of shoplifting. The suspect was located and arrested for theft and trespassed from businesses where items had been stolen.

During this time period there were 28 property damage traffic accidents and four property damage injury traffic accidents.
