Turtle in Traffic, Theft, Exploded Watermelon: MGPD Incident Report

A synopsis of some of the incidents responded to by the Maple Grove Police Department during the week of Aug. 26-Sept. 1, 2018.

August 26
9500 block of Upland Lane. Report of license plate stolen from vehicle parked outside of business. No suspect information.

13800 block of Grove Drive. Report of gas drive off. Officer made contact with the suspect who stated he thought he paid, he agreed to return to pay for gas. Staff reported that he had done so.

August 27
12600 block of Elm Creek Boulevard. Report of intoxicated female passed out in vehicle parked outside of business. Officer made contact with the female, who was transported to the hotel she was staying at.

11500 block of Arbor Lakes Parkway. Report of vehicle tampering with no loss. Multiple vehicles in the area had apparently been gone through. The suspect was apprehended in another jurisdiction with property related to the vehicle tampering scene and was arrested for burglary. 

11400 Fountains Drive. Report of shoplifter in custody. Officer responded the suspect was arrested for theft. 

August 28
18900 block of 96th Avenue. Report of credit cards stolen from unlocked vehicle parked in driveway with subsequent fraudulent activity. The incident is under investigation.

15900 block of 73rd Place. Report of explosion heard over night and debris found on basketball court in park. Officer responded and found an exploded watermelon and spent fireworks cartridge near trash container; no damage to property.

8100 block of Wedgewood Lane. Report of shoplifter who had left the business on foot. Officer located the suspect nearby who was arrested for theft and trespassed from the store.

August 29
I-94 and Maple Grove Parkway. Officer on routine patrol made contact with driver of stalled vehicle who appeared intoxicated. The suspect was arrested for DWI and driving after revocation.

10700 block of Maple Valley Drive. Report of cell phone stolen from unlocked vehicle parked in driveway. No suspect information.

6900 block of Trenton Lane. Report of suspicious vehicle parked in neighborhood. Officer made contact with the occupants who stated they were on a date and just watching a video. No illegal activity and no assistance needed.

August 30
11800 block of 95th Avenue. Report of threats and assault. Officer responded and found that following a verbal altercation a coworker had made threats and assaulted another.  The suspect was arrested for assault and disorderly conduct.

73rd Avenue and Hemlock Lane. Report of large turtle on sidewalk which was safely relocated to a nearby swamp by responding officer.

13800 block of 83rd Way. Report of unconscious individual. Officer responded and found male had apparent heart attack.  Provided care until paramedics arrived and transport the victim to the hospital.

August 31
13700 block of 74th Place. Report of intoxicated female planning to drive vehicle.  Officer responded and found she had been drinking but was able to care for herself. Her boyfriend had arrived to provide transportation and no further assistance needed.

7800 block of Elm Creek Boulevard. Report of possible drug activity in hotel room.  Officer made contact with the individual who stated he was not participating in anything illegal and it was determined that his ex-wife had made the report. 

9700 block of 103rd Avenue. Report of injured bird in homeowner’s yard. Officer responded and found the bird appeared healthy although it could not fly. The bird was transported to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center for further care.

September 1
8900 block of Oakview Lane. Officer on routine patrol noted disturbance at residence. Contact was made with the individuals on scene who were involved in a verbal disagreement regarding a noise complaint. Advised they would separate for the evening; no further assistance needed.

9900 block of Hemlock Way. Report of home being egged and no further damage to property. No suspect information.

Bass Lake Road and Jewel Lane. Officer on routine patrol observed snapping turtle trying to cross the roadway. Traffic controlled as a shovel was used to transport the turtle to safety.

During this time period there were 25 property damage traffic accidents and three property damage injury traffic accidents.
