Team McGuire Karate Launches Shoe Drive for World Karate Championships

Oct 18, 2018 06:00AM ● By Wendy Erlien
Team McGuire Karate  is conducting a shoe drive fundraiser through Nov. 8, 2018 to raise funds for training and travel in 11-year-old Trevor McGuire’s quest to win a gold medal at a world karate championship.

McGuire will earn funds based on the total weight of the pairs of gently worn, used and new shoes collected, as Funds2Orgs will issue a check for the collected shoes. Those dollars will benefit Team McGuire Karate. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used and new shoes at The Joint Chiropractic, 7799 Main Street, Maple Grove, MN 55369 and other locations (see

All donated shoes will then be redistributed throughout the Funds2Orgs network of micro-enterprise (small business) partners. Funds2Orgs works with micro-entrepreneurs in helping them create, maintain and grow small businesses in developing countries where economic opportunity and jobs are limited.

"We are excited about our shoe drive," current Team USA member and second degree black belt at Dojo Karate Trevor McGuire said, according to a press release.  "We know that most people have extra shoes in their closets they would like to donate to us. By doing so, we have the chance to help families in developing nations who need economic opportunities and we raise money for my training. It's a win-win for everyone.”
