Vehicle Accident, Building Fire, Power Line Down: MGFD March Incident Report

For the month of March 2019, the Maple Grove Fire Department responded to 78 incidents. Here's a synopsis of some of those incidents. 

March 2
6900 block of Jonquil Lane North. Gas leak. Resident called smelling gas inside home, exited residence.  On arrival noticed an odor of gas in street walking up to house, dispatch notified CenterPoint.  Crew found gas grill on the deck of resident's house that had propane tank and burner open, shut off both.  CenterPoint checked inside and outside residence.  Fire cleared. 

March 11
Weaver Lake Road North and Norwood Lane. Vehicle accident.

March 13
Brockton Lane North and Fieldstone. Power line down. Truck hit a TV cable between two power poles. Utilities and Wright Hennepin notified.  Assisted Maple Grove Police Department with traffic control.  

March 15
12500 block of Elm Creek Boulevard. Gasoline or other flammable liquid spill. Met reporting party at his vehicle in the parking lot where he stated that he had a third of a tank of gas when he left for work from home.  As he was driving he noticed the gas gauge was dropping at an expedited rate.  When he got into the parking lot he was out of gas.  Less than a quart of gas spilled in the parking lot, used floor dry to absorb fuel.  No gasoline got into storm sewer.  

March 16
11500 block of 72nd Avenue North. Building fire. Fully involved garage fire, fire extinguished.   

7000 Hemlock Lane North. Burnt food. Cooking in the concession stand set off alarm.  No signs of fire. 

6800 block of Hemlock Lane North. Outside fire. Called to cycling/workout facility. Employee noticed smell from towel/laundry bag and placed the bag outside.  Towels appeared to catch fire, this was caused by a chemical reaction from bleach/essential oils and dryer heat. Fire extinguished with booster line and foam. 

11500 block of 72nd Avenue North. Building fire. Reporting party called to report smoke coming from the eves of garage that was on fire earlier in the day.  On arrival found mostly steam coming from the side of the garage.  Maple Grove Fire Department removed the soffit on the side of the garage, pulled back shingles on the roof, and sprayed water with foam along interior of soffit/roof line.  

March 18
12900 block of 63rd Avenue North. Burnt food. Called to a report of burnt food.   

March 19 
14200 block of 68th Place North. Gasoline or other flammable liquid spill. 

March 20
County Road 81 and Fernbrook Lane. Motor vehicle accident with injuries. 

March 28
Highway 610 and Elm Creek Boulevard. Road freight or transport vehicle fire. 

March 29
14800 block of 75th Avenue North. Burnt food. Kitchen staff burned bacon.   
Eastbound I-94 and Maple Grove Parkway. Grass fire. Small grass fire along eastbound 94 had been stomped out by passerby.  Water extinguisher to extinguish remaining hot spots.

March 31
16300 block of County Road 30. Mild smell of burnt food on arrival, no visible signs of smoke or fire.
