The next step for the Veterans Memorial project in Maple Grove's Central Park took place with a ground breaking on Saturday, April 13.

The memorial, planned to open the summer of 2019, will be located in the southwest corner of the park.

In attendance for the ground breaking included members from Minnesota House of Representatives, Maple Grove City Council, Maple Grove Park Board, Maple Grove Beyond the Yellow Ribbon, Osseo/Maple Grove American Legion, and the Maple Grove Lions.

The project has been part of four years of planning and fundraising after the Maple Grove Beyond the Yellow Ribbon group proposed the concept.

"The memorial will include descriptive panels of major conflicts, a wall honoring Maple Grove
armed forces who died while in service, and tributes to each branch of the armed services," according to a press release from Maple Grove Parks and Recreation.
