Rush Creek Elementary “Six Smarties” Earn Destination Imagination Global Final Honor

More than 8,000 students from over 15  countries advanced to the 20th annual Destination Imagination (DI) Global Finals competition in Kansas City, Missouri in May 2019.

Several Minnesota teams traveled to the event, including a fifth grade Rush Creek Elementary team named “Six Smarties” which earned a third place medal finish in the improvisational, elementary level category

During the international gathering, students shared their innovative solutions in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM), as well as fine arts, service learning and improvisation.

Throughout the school year, DI teams presented their solutions at regional and state competitions as they advanced to qualifying and competing at Global Finals.

Imagination (improvisational) Category

20th place – Rush Creek Elementary “Super 7 Sensations” (elementary)

39th place – Maple Grove Middle School “Gentlemen Boys” (middle school)

Medical Mystery (Scientific) Category

5th place – Wayzata Public Schools “Da Cheeeeeze” (middle school)

On Target (Technical) Category

36th place – Wayzata Public Schools “Super 6” (elementary)

57th place – Wayzata Public Schools “Dream Team” (middle school)

Game On (Fine Arts) Category

43rd – Wayzata Public Schools “TBA” (middle school)

“Team solutions were assessed by a panel of trained appraisers, ranging from educators to artists and engineers, and were scored on a variety of elements, including originality, workmanship, presentation and teamwork,” according to DI organizers.
