In a small shop on Central Avenue in Osseo, KaWynn Fine Crafts opened its doors to community members in July 2019.

The shop is a mix of the original creations of Katrina (Kat), and Catrielle (Wynn) Barnett.

"Osseo has an adorable main street which is the home of many small businesses," KaWynn Owner Katrina Barnett said. "I wanted to open a shop in a cozy neighborhood that allowed for both walking and parking to visit the shops."

Katrina, along with her daughter Catrielle, specialize in detailed, handmade items.

"Opening a shop that focuses on handmade items has been something I've wanted to pursue for awhile now. I've worked as a jewelry artist since 1997 when I graduated from Minneapolis Community and Technical College with a degree in Jewelry Manufacturing," Katrina said. "Minnesota is a great state for artists and its been a pleasure to create and sell my work in the Midwest for many years."

Katrina's work focuses primarily on silver and enamel with semi-precious stones.

"Many pieces have a story behind them. Often, they are mini wearable sculptures. On the other
hand, I do love to create practical, yet playful jewelry too. My daughter and I both create lamp work glass beads as well," Katrina said. "When opening KaWynn, we wanted to create lines of jewelry together that are playful and affordable. Both of us enjoy unconventional materials such as; records, vintage elements and found materials."

Textile work is one of Catrielle's focuses at KaWynn, created unique designs and prints - often from reused materials.

"She feels strongly its important to preserve and reuse materials to conserve," Katrina said.

Catrielle's collections include items such as purses, zipper pouches, scarves, hats, pillow, and more. Pottery featured in the shop is created by Catrielle as well.

"Our work is affordable and adaptable to suite many needs. KaWynn is an intimate space, which allows for conversations and a close look at our collections," Katrina said.

Beginning in September, the shop is anticipated to be open most Saturdays. Current hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  Saturday, Aug. 24 and Sept. 7.

"We both look forward to many years ahead being a part of the community," Katrina said.
