Eight Local Educators Named 2020 Minnesota Teacher of The Year Candidates

Several Maple Grove area teachers are among 134 educators statewide to be candidates for the 2020 Minnesota Teacher of the Year award. 

Among those named, according to a press release from Education Minnesota, include educators from Osseo Area SchoolsParnassus Preparatory School, and Wayzata Public Schools:
  • Jessica Spurrell, Osseo Area Schools - Fernbrook Elementary (Fourth Grade)
  • Kori Brown, Osseo Area Schools - Birch Grove Elementary (Art)
  • Jan Radder, Osseo Area Schools - Birch Grove Elementary (Second Grade)
  • Lynn Jerman, Parnassus Preparatory School (First Level Grammar)
  • Emily Haugh, Wayzata Public Schools - Wayzata High School 
  • Dawn Johnson, Wayzata Public Schools - Wayzata High School 
  • Amanda Laden, Wayzata Public Schools - Wayzata High School 
  • Steve Newman, Wayzata Public Schools - Central Middle School
In the weeks ahead, a panel of community leaders will name a group of semifinalists and finalists. The 2020 Minnesota Teacher of the Year will be announced on May 3 at the Saint Paul RiverCentre. 

Candidates for 2020 Minnesota Teacher of the Year include pre-kindergarten through 12th grade and Adult Basic Education teachers at public and private schools statewide.

The Minnesota Teacher of the Year program is organized and underwritten by Education Minnesota and receives support from several other organizations and businesses.
